Interpreting the Cultural Landscape of Hunan Province through Orthodox Geomancy
My Trip in 2026-8study tour

There are two peaks in Chinese philosophy: the Neo Confucianism of the Pre Qin Dynasty and the Neo Confucianism of the Song and Ming Dynasties. The pioneers and terminators of Neo Confucianism were both from Hunan, with Zhou Dunyi from Daoxian and Wang Chuanshan from Hengyang being the pioneers and terminators. Wang Chuanshan further solidified Zhang Zai’s theory of Qi into simple materialism, initiating the enlightenment of modern Chinese thought. From then on, Hunan literati had a profound impact on the development of modern Chinese thought and social change.
The three major dragon veins of China, the Luoxiao Mountains and Hengshan Mountains of the Southern Dragon Ancestor, follow the north of the Xiang River, creating a magnificent epic of a hundred years. The Liaoxi Kanyu Research Institute, guided by the essence of traditional culture and the Three Liao Kanyu, interprets the outstanding humanistic atmosphere of the southern mountains of Hengshan and Luoxiao on both sides of the Xiang River, with the grand pattern of dragon hole sand and water mountains and rivers. From the perspective of orthodox royal geomancy, visiting the hometowns of famous figures in Hunan, China in modern and contemporary times, and conducting in-depth investigations of more than 30 geomancy works such as their former residences and ancestral sites, is a rare opportunity for professional geomancers and the Yi learning community to broaden their geographical, humanistic, and geomancy perspectives.

Liu Shaoqi’s hometown is shrouded in mist and rain, and he lives his life forever
In 1961, when he returned to his hometown at a young age, he saw that the housing of the members was crowded. He distributed his old residence to the members, and assigned all the tables, chairs, stoves, and warehouses to each household. He only stayed in his bedroom for a week. After rehabilitation and restoration, the villagers returned the furniture that was taken away in the past. The plaque of Comrade Liu Shaoqi’s former residence was almost burned as firewood during the Cultural Revolution. The commune cook risked his life to turn it over and use it as a cutting board, hiding the only original building. Today, the back of the plaque still bears numerous knife marks from the past.

Peng Dehuai’s Hometown

General Tan Zheng’s hometown grew from a rural teacher to a founding general. He served as Mao Zedong’s first secretary in Jinggangshan and was a Confucian general with a strong character. He devoted his entire life to military and political work. His former residence was located in Santai, where he was known for being handsome and handsome.

General Chen Geng’s hometown, Xiangxiang, was known as the Tiger General of the Gate. His grandfather was a general of the Xiang Army under the command of Zeng Guofan. In his later years, he returned to his hometown and told stories about the Xiang Army to Chen Geng from a young age, which influenced his life choices. Chen Gong was one of the Three Heroes of Huangpu, who saved Chiang Kai shek’s life twice. He was the founder of national defense technology in New China, and his ancestral home was heavily criticized. He crossed the Qushui River.

Hu Yaobang’s hometown is the epic of the Ming Dynasty. He lived in Huguang, Jiangxi, by the banks of Minxi River in Cangfang, Liuyang, and studied for 400 years in the Hu family of Xiling. However, his family’s fortunes declined during his father’s generation. My parents gave birth to a total of twelve children, with only five left. Yao Bang was born in a small ear room of 10 square meters, and worked and studied at a young age. At the age of fifteen, he left his hometown and started a revolution.

Zeng Guofan was born in Baiyutang, and his grandfather Zeng Xinggang built it in 1808. For over a hundred years, it has silently influenced the fate of the Zeng clan. Zeng Guofan was one of the four great ministers of the late Qing Dynasty and was hailed as the most perfect person of all time.

Qi Baishi’s hometown is Xiaoxia Peak, the 72nd peak of Nanyue, which has nurtured a generation of artistic spirituality. He spent most of his life in the countryside and left his hometown in Hunan at the age of 55 to develop in Beijing. The young Qi Baishi crouched by the pond in front of the door, watching the swimming shrimp. He carved the jumping and swimming posture of the shrimp into wood carvings and painted them on rice paper. Later, Mo Xia, who became famous all over the world, had his earliest observation draft hidden in the wild grass by this pond. The countryside was the master’s initial artistic enlightenment.

The dust of a century old nostalgia for Ma Ying jeou’s hometown has settled
As early as 1928, when his grandfather Ma Lian was buried, he engraved his grandson “Yingjiu” on the tombstone. In 2023, when Ma Ying jeou touched his name on the tombstone, his century old homesickness was settled in front of his ancestral tomb.

A microcosm of the farming and reading culture in Zhangguying Village, northern Hunan
Zhang Guying Village is hidden in a basin surrounded by mountains in Weidong, Yueyang. Its founder, Zhang Guying, was a commander of the Ming Dynasty and was proficient in feng shui. He chose this prosperous land to settle down in. The village is backed by the Dragon shaped Mountain, surrounded by the Wei River on three sides, and the natural giant stones in front of it are pearls. The pattern of “giant dragons playing with pearls” is surrounded by a golden belt that gathers wind and gas. For 600 years, the Zhang family has multiplied for 27 generations, confirming the feng shui wisdom of the unity of heaven and man.

he classic work of Liu Daxia, the Minister of War of the Ming Dynasty, titled “Notice to the Geographical Son of Man”
Tomorrow, in the eighth year of the Shun reign, he passed the imperial examination and was promoted to the position of Minister of War for four dynasties. Pacifying the war in Southwest China, controlling the Yellow River flood, rectifying border salaries, breaking the monopoly of the powerful, maintaining integrity and honesty throughout his life, offending the powerful official Liu Jin, being exiled to Suzhou, being pardoned and returning home to spend his old age, and being a core contributor to the revival of the country.
